Dear Community Member,
Summer reading is coming soon! This year, the library has worked hard to adapt our summer reading to fit into the current needs of the community. In the past, summer reading has been the library’s busiest time of year. Last year, we had 650 participants read over 14,000 books during the 8-week program. Due to current events, the library has modified its program to be flexible for our community needs. We are opening our doors to the public on June 29. This year’s summer reading will take place July 1 through July 31.
The Library’s program is designed to encourage reading development through engaging activities, in a fun environment. Each department has paired educational, recreational and informational programs with reading challenges to create a unique and fun filled way to spend the summer. Since our staff’s planning timeline has been significantly shortened, we have not had time to organize summer reading incentives. Typically, the library encourages participating by setting milestones that earn the reader prizes. Readers work towards goals set within their age groups in order to win prizes. We are urgently seeking donations of any form that can be used to encourage our community to read.
Monetary contributions, prizes and handouts are some of the options in which you can help support this program. Any item, small or large makes a significant difference in our program. The Marion Carnegie Library summer reading programs would not be possible without your generous support. Donations can be dropped off at the library Monday – Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Thank you for your consideration and generosity. If you have questions, please contact Sarah Watkins, Coordinator of Library Services at (618) 993-5935.
Thank you for all that you do for our library.
